Isn’t making new friends one of the best things in the world? A friend who enjoys photography as much as you do and who also tries every type of topping on their fro-yo. I’ve made a couple of new friends lately and I had the pleasure of going to the beach with my friend April (ironic as my name is “June” in Norwegian). Yes, there was adventure involved. Yes, there was too much frozen yoghurt. Yes, we did take a million photos. Yes, she got extremely sunburned… Summer is over, so we have to enjoy our last days of warm weather while we can. Quoting Nelly Furtado: “Why must all good things come to an end?”.
Australia isn’t that cold in winter anyways, so I’m very much looking forward to wearing jeans for the first time in 6 months! Somewhere the limit of how many outfits look good in 30 degree weather is reached… Goodbye, summer! You will be missed.
see you soon x
Wonderful shot, too bad summer ever ends. :)

This photo was taken on Galveston Island, summer 2013. I was vacationing along with two of my four children. I love the beach and to feel the sand between my toes!
Nice shot! :)

The feet of Summer
Summer is for sandals, shorts, and even some sunburns. Today, July 5th, is the traditional beginning of Summer her in Seattle. It’s time for all those complaints of rain and darkness to come out. For us to step out of boots and dress shoes and replace them with sandals or just bare feet. It’s time to let your toes dig themselves into a beach or some green grass. To stand by a BBQ and to really be with the people that we care about. It’s the time where nothing should be kept up inside and we get out. We rock these sandals that protect just what we need, let us be comfortable in who we are and not hide much. Let that be your mantra for this summer, let’s live lives like feet in sandals.
Cool shot, captures the spirit very well! :)

Here’s one picture of my toes from yesterday, got them wet running in the rain, some last warm days of this summer to dry them outside.
Here’s a link to a blog post that I wrote about summer holidays, and how in (even physically close situated) countries the holiday months are defined different way.
Have a nice August!

Every summer one of the kids favorite places to go is the Spraygrounds in the Dorbrook Park in Colts Neck, NJ. This is a great place to go to cool off and best yet-its free!!!! This year was especially exciting because my daughter who is now 17 months and was really able to enjoy the water.
Great shot, evocative and nostalgic at the same time! :)

When I was little, not little-little, but tomboy little, 8 or 9 maybe, around this time every year, as soon as it started to get warm enough outside, I’d start going around barefoot. Little by little, short bursts to get the mail, into the backyard, (carefully avoiding the deep bed of pricklers fallen around the holly trees), across the driveway, ours smooth black asphalt, working up to our dear neighbors ohmygod EXPOSED AGGREGATE the ultimate bane of bare feet. The first liberation of winter white little toes, carpet-soft heretofore beslippered paws that had been swaddled in socks and winter boots for months. I called it “getting my summer feet”, my 8-year-old notion that if I started getting the bottom of my feet prepped in April, by the time June rolled around I’d have leathery Indian feet, ready to go in the woods, play kickball on pavement, traverse hot sands, climb seaside and river deep rocks, go clamming, and repel splinters and blackberry thorns with ease. Today is the first day it’s been warm enough to go outside barefoot and as I stepped outside to water our newly transplanted bulbs and yet to sprout seedlings, I thought: Ouch. It’s been YEARS since I’ve let my feet loose from their high-heeled-and-pedicured-city-street-subway-stair-walking duties. YEARS since I had summer feet. And then I thought: YES! The countrification of these feet begin today! Summer feet: 20 years later, now with hot pink nail polish.
Great story and shot!
