When I was little, not little-little, but tomboy little, 8 or 9 maybe, around this time every year, as soon as it started to get warm enough outside, I’d start going around barefoot. Little by little, short bursts to get the mail, into the backyard, (carefully avoiding the deep bed of pricklers fallen around the holly trees), across the driveway, ours smooth black asphalt, working up to our dear neighbors ohmygod EXPOSED AGGREGATE the ultimate bane of bare feet. The first liberation of winter white little toes, carpet-soft heretofore beslippered paws that had been swaddled in socks and winter boots for months. I called it “getting my summer feet”, my 8-year-old notion that if I started getting the bottom of my feet prepped in April, by the time June rolled around I’d have leathery Indian feet, ready to go in the woods, play kickball on pavement, traverse hot sands, climb seaside and river deep rocks, go clamming, and repel splinters and blackberry thorns with ease. Today is the first day it’s been warm enough to go outside barefoot and as I stepped outside to water our newly transplanted bulbs and yet to sprout seedlings, I thought: Ouch. It’s been YEARS since I’ve let my feet loose from their high-heeled-and-pedicured-city-street-subway-stair-walking duties. YEARS since I had summer feet. And then I thought: YES! The countrification of these feet begin today! Summer feet: 20 years later, now with hot pink nail polish.
Great story and shot!

I was enjoying the summer by myself. It’s good to be able to enjoy solitude.
Ocean looks beautiful. Great shot!

Taken at Campbells Bay on Auckland’s North Shore on the first summer beach day of the year, (well that was the consensus anyway)!
Looks a bit wintery but beautiful there!

Last summer walk in the waves of the Atlantic. Those waves must be incredible today, tortured by the blustery winds of Hurricane Sandy.
Hoping and praying for everyone’s safety.
Beautiful shot. Our sentiments as well … hoping and praying for all.
“This past weekend I went away for my annual Fire Island mini-vacation. Every year my friends and I take this trip on the same weekend, stay in the same crappy hotel room, and love every second of it. For those of you who don’t know where Fire Island is, it is a long and skinny island directly south of Long Island. The amazing thing about it is as soon as you arrive you seem to be in another world. You have to take a boat to get there, and once you have arrived, the main mode of transportation is a bike. The streets are lined with adorable shops, intimate restaurants and beachy bars. This was exactly the weekend escape I needed after a long and stressful week. Too bad anytime you go away with eleven girlfriends, you can’t plan to get too much rest! “
Sounds fun and great shot!

“Where are your feet taking you today? School is drawing to an end here and so packing is taking place. One exam next week that I’ll come back for then off for summer! Thankfully I get this room next year, too bad I can’t keep my stuff here over summer.
I hope this summer I can go tubing! So relaxing and fun while enjoying a tan! That’s what summer is all about, soaking in the sun! Hope everyone has something enjoyable planned for summer! Even if it’s a weekend to your favorite restaurant. Enjoy your friends and loved ones!”
Nice shot and hope you have a great summer!

“Here’s the finished version. The first sketch showed him in mid-air over the water, as if caught in mid-leap. Once I drew it, I decided he kind of looked like he was already in the water. I think it would work either way, but I already did a mid-leap image last time. I thought drawing bubbles in this would be fun, so I put him underwater. Same font as the other one: Komika Boo. “
Great one too!
